Best Way To Remove Blackheads

Finding the best way to remove blackheads is always a concern for those who suffer with acne that tends to cause dead skin cells, oils and bacteria to accumulate in pores. When exposed to oxygen, this debris turns dark or black and is unsightly, especially on the face which makes blackhead removal that much more important. Blackheads can appear on the face, ears, neck, back and chest and may or may not be accompanied by redness or swelling. Some plugged pores are merely clogged but do not show signs of obvious infection by displaying redness or a white, yellow fluid underneath.

Dark-colored, clogged pores are one of the common symptoms of typical acne that affects over 75% of the population at one time or another, usually during the teen years. Hormonal changes or imbalances can cause the oil glands to secrete excessive amounts of oil that can clog pores. Some of these pores turn dark and result in hardened debris that may call for blackhead removal at some time. Since this type of acne isn't overtly infected, using antibiotics and other oral medications is not effective. While the underlying cause is under the skin, the best way to remove blackheads is usually topical.

There are several ways to deal with ugly, clogged pores depending on how they present themselves. The easiest pores to clean are those that have 'heads' on them. As a pore fills with debris, it can become so full that the debris fills to the top and hardens. Sometimes, a person can feel the very small bump where the top of the pore is that indicates the hardened material. Pores that are more tightly closed and have debris more deeply embedded are more difficult to loosen. In order to administer blackhead removal on pores that are completely full, first apply a warm, damp cloth for about 5-10 minutes; steam the face; or take a long, warm shower. This will loosen the debris as well as open the pores a bit.

Next, use a method of extraction that is effective, yet gentle to the skin. There are many extractors on the market today that can easily be purchased. For some people, this is the best way to remove blackheads. One type of tool that can used is a 'comedone extractor' that is usually made of stainless steel and is long and slender with a spoon shape on each end. The different sized spoons have small holes in them that will allow debris to escape when the tool is gently pressed over the pore for blackhead removal. Some extractors of this sort have a lancet on one end that can open the head of the pore before applying gentle pressure with the other end.

Another comedone extractor is called a fine loop comedone that is used for both blackheads and whiteheads. As indicated by the name, the tool has a very small loop on both ends that make it easy to be precise when trying to avoid other pores that surround the target. Various comedone-like tools are used by dermatologists or skin care specialists to clear problematic pores of their clients. While these extractors are helpful and used by professionals, everyone should use care in applying these instruments to their skin so that other problems such as scarring and infections will not occur. "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Other methods of extraction include using a syringe and cosmetic tape applied on the skin. A syringe-type extractor can be purchased that simply uses suction to remove the darkened debris. The end of the syringe is placed directly over the top of the pore and the slide is drawn upward to create a suction which pulls the blackhead out of the pore and into the syringe. Cosmetic blackhead removal tape is another tool of choice for many people. Applied to softened pores and then pulled upward, the tape uses an adhesive to tug at the head of the debris and lift it away.

These types of extractors work well with open pores, but closed pores that contain debris are best dealt with patiently by using a gentle facial cleanser or scrub after a steam treatment. The pores will open and a little, slight pressure may yield the stubborn material. Care should be used since misdirected pressure can drive the debris deeper and may cause infection. It is best to repeat the procedure systematically over time until the pores clear naturally. Some people experience blackened pores as a result of serious acne issues that should be addressed by a skin care specialist or doctor. Professionals can provide a treatment plan that includes the best way to remove blackheads while effectively avoiding skin damage.
