Acne During Pregnancy

Acne during pregnancy is a common occurrence for many women due to the erratic hormone levels they often experience as their bodies are changing to accommodated the growing new life inside of them. Getting treatment for it should first be evaluated by a dermatologist so that no harm will come to the unborn child. When women breakout, they want to get to the root of the problem. This can only be done by first understanding what this condition is; then a prognoses can be developed. It is a disorder of the skin's oil glands. This disorder creates clogged pores and outbreaks of lesions commonly referred to as "pimples" or "zits". These lesions typically cover the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulder areas. Over 17 million people in the United States alone suffer from some form, many of them being teenagers, and pregnant women.

Women desire to get treatment because a severe case can actually create disfigurement and lead to permanent scarring. The fluctuation between rising and lowering hormone levels (as in the puberty years of life) cause a change in the skin follicle tissue, which leads to the forcing of the oils and cells to clog up within the follicle. It certainly seems that more is going on under the skin, than on top of the skin, which is why severe cases require acne drugs during pregnancy. Normally, a simple topical medicated cream would suffice to eliminate the skin irritation.

In pregnant women, this condition can range from none at all to mild to severe, depending on how the individual's body deals with the fluctuating hormone levels. Typically 2-7 days before a woman's menstruation cycle begins, the hormones again fluctuate causing a breakout. Another cause of acne during pregnancy is stress or prolonged tension. Prolonged stress or tension takes a great deal from the body's normal functioning system. Stress has been the cause of many ailments in recent years. The body's inability to handle stress may be a cause. Acne drugs during pregnancy may be the only solution for a severe case, but extreme caution should be taken before ingesting any pharmaceutical product while carrying a child.

Pregnant women with this condition are usually treated with the use of a topical medicated drug. In addition to acne drugs during pregnancy that specifically attack the acne problem; antibiotics have been shown to help stop or slow the spread. The main goal of a treatment is to stop the possibility of permanent scarring. Squeezing, picking or hard scrubbing are usually not effective methods for removing the appearance of pimples, since this condition is primarily a problem that occurs under the skin within the hair follicles of a human body. Sometimes typical picking and scrubbing methods only irritate the skin further and result in creating a worse case of acne during pregnancy. Those that are interested in finding alternative methods can first and foremost keep their skin healthy by eating nutritiously and by keeping their skin free from dirt and excessive oil.

Greasy cosmetics will contribute to this condition. Acne drugs during pregnancy may be required if the woman is allergic to environmental irritants such as pollution or high humidity. Each individual case and cause should be determined before suggesting a pregnant woman take medications. Some ailments can be healed with the help of a doctor, but some require the help of God through prayer, especially when faced with a decision on the type of treatment. God has a concern for the health of His children, and concern for their soul. He desires prayer from each individual before each decision is made, especially those that will not only affect one body, but two. "Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me." (Psalm 138:7)
