Toxic Mold Inspection

Certified mold inspection will uncover hidden problems that may be lurking in dark damp places in the home. Mold is a form of fungus that is airborne mostly settling upon wet and damp surfaces both inside and outside. Tiny spores of fungus inside the home can cause health problems such as allergies, dermatitis, headaches, asthma, fatigue, sinus problems, emphysema, dizziness, eye irritation, and confusion. Common locations that mold may be found in homes include but are not limited to the bathroom, kitchen, basement, and attic. A toxic mold inspection is something to seriously consider if a homeowner or property owner suspects a problem. Older homes and buildings are more suspect than newer ones simply because they may suffer from dilapidation and have water leaks and dampness where mold can thrive.

Homeowners can become distraught over the possibility that there is an unseen force causing their family to be sick. Having a certified mold inspection with a professional who knows how to detect the presence of spores in the air and on surfaces will be able to find out if there is fungus present and what needs to be done to get rid of it. A visual examination may reveal any problem areas immediately but for hidden problems air and surface samples will be necessary to find fungus. Fungus spores can grow in dark damp areas that are not normally seen. Leaky pipes behind walls and under sinks, leaky roofs and windowsills, can all cause problems over time when they go unnoticed.

Cleaning the area where fungus is growing will be of little help if the problem that is causing the dampness remains. Leaving leaky pipes and orifices will inevitably result in the growth of more spores. A toxic mold inspection can go through and do a thorough cleanup but to avoid future problems other repairs may have to be made. Fungus spores classified as mold can become toxic especially if the growth is tremendous and individuals who are exposed suffer from respiratory problems. Spores can make people very sick and there are some types that are worse than others. The Lord wants us to be diligent in taking care of the things that He has blessed us with. "Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds." (Proverbs 27:23)

Black mold is the type that can really make a person sick. Inhaling the spores can cause breathing problems leading to more serious illnesses such as asthma and emphysema. This type of fungus can be found during a toxic mold inspection. Of all of the different strains of fungus this one can have a huge impact on those who are exposed to it. When exposed a person may experience flu type symptoms with sore throat, fever, diarrhea, and extreme fatigue. Other symptoms that can surface from exposure are hair loss, kidney and liver cancer, and breathing difficulty caused by damage done to the lungs. Lung problems may surface as asthma, emphysema, pneumonia, and cancer. Black fungus can cause immune system problems that can lead to many types of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, eczema, lupus, and connective tissue disorder.

Some of the surfaces that fungus can successfully adhere to and multiply include but are not limited to wet straw and hay, ceiling tiles, wood, wallpaper, carpet, baseboards, and wallboard. A certified mold inspection can reveal what surfaces that spores are located on and why they are there. The first places that will need to be checked are places where water leaks can be a problem. Upon finding a problem a professional will normally advise an individual to not tackle cleaning up fungus alone. Cleanup must consider contamination of other areas as well as keeping fungus contained and limiting exposure. Another important consideration includes using the right disinfectant to kill the spores and using one that is safe in the home. The magnitude of the problem may be a good way to judge whether to do a cleanup alone or hire someone else to do it.

A musty odor may be an indication that fungus is growing close by. Just because mold is not visible doesn't mean that it is not there. Microscopic organisms such as fungus spores like to hang out in places where the humidity is high and colonize in damp places. Indoor plants can lead to mold problems indoors especially if the plant is over watered and areas close by stay wet all of the time. Fungus may be found in the laundry room on wet clothing or even underneath the washing machine where a small leak has gone unnoticed. A certified mold inspection includes going over all of the possible places that spores can be located.

Commercial and office buildings are susceptible to microscopic organisms too. Absolutely any building can have a problem with fungus even those that do not have kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms because water can come in from the outside through leaky roofs and windows. Owners of commercial and office buildings would do well to have their establishments inspected at least once every year. For the safety and health of their employees and to avoid lawsuits from workers because the environment is making them sick. A toxic mold inspection will help to reveal any problems and get them taken care of before people that are exposed become sick. Be diligent to stay on top of obvious concerns by tracking down musty smells, and checking for water leaks in visible areas. Look for rust, condensation on windows, keep gutters clean, and check ceiling tiles.
