Smoke Air Purifier

A smoke air purifier is especially designed to reduce the contaminants caused by cigarette and cigar smoking in an enclosed area, such as a room, a house, or a business. There are several different types of purifying systems available to consumers. Different types of technologies are used, depending on the specific unit. Some systems use filters and others are filterless systems. Some units are large enough and powerful enough to operate through the entire home or building. Other units are small and portable, just right for a single room or an open area. To help sort through the overload of information, a potential customer may wish to do initial research on the various technologies that are used in the more popular systems. With this information, and knowing how large of an area needs to be purified by the system, the consumer can then begin evaluating different models and prices. The consumer is helped in this evaluation process by websites that provide reviews and comparisons of smoke air purifier systems. This type of evaluation can help narrow down the choices for the consumer.

Because odors are often invisible, it's logical to assume that once the smell dissipates that the odor is gone. However, this isn't necessarily the case. Odors are actually microscopic particles that float around in the atmosphere. This is why dogs, whose smelling capabilities are much greater than that of humans, can track people and other animals. The dogs are sniffing and trailing the microscopic particles. Even if an individual can't smell an odor, that doesn't mean that the odor-causing particles have completely disappeared. Tobacco smoke emits carcinogens and offensive odor particles into the atmosphere. The smoker may not be able to smell the odor because he has become so used to it. But to others, especially those with allergies and asthma, the smell can be unbearable. A smoke air purifier can help to cleanse the atmosphere, but probably won't completely eliminate all the particles. Those who are sensitive to such smells may still be susceptible to the lingering fumes caused by smoking. Second-hand smoke is a dangerous health hazard so individuals should stay away from it as much as possible. Smokers are encouraged to end the habit to protect the health of themselves and their loved ones. This can be a very difficult habit to break, however, and other steps may need to be taken.

Smokers can choose to light up outside or in a special room of the home. But that special room absolutely must be equipped with a smoke air purifier. The remainder of the house may also need a purifying system to eliminate floating particles. Purifiers come in two basic categories: those that need filters and those that are filterless. Some people prefer the filterless purifiers because such systems eliminate the need to purchase replacement filters. However, the filterless systems are often more expensive. Consumers can compare the costs between filtered units that require the purchase of replacement filters and filterless units that don't have this ongoing cost. However, consumers need to remember that even filterless units require maintenance and cleaning to continue working at top efficiency. Many popular smoke air purifier systems use advanced carbon or HEPA filters. HEPA stands for "high efficiency particulate arresting." An electrostatic system uses opposite electrical charges to trap particles onto a collection grid. Ionic systems emit ions into the air which causes particles to clump together and fall onto furniture, walls, or the floor. Ozone units emit minute amounts of this trace gas into the atmosphere.

A purifying system performs one or more of the following functions: 1) the unit traps airborne particles; 2) it breaks down chemical compounds; or 3) it destroys odor-causing molecules. When smoking particles drift into the atmosphere, they get into people's clothing and hair. The microscopic beasties cling to furniture, draperies, and other items in the home or business. While a smoke air purifier can trap airborne particles, break down compounds, and destroy odor-causing molecules, the unit can do nothing about the clinging beasties. These will continue to create a foul and unhealthy smell. A little known Bible verse, written by King Solomon, says: "Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes" (Song of Solomon 2:15). The foxes were small, but their small size didn't keep them from causing ruin in the vineyards. Similarly, the microscopic size of invisible particles doesn't prevent them being a health hazard.

The advanced technologies being applied to smoke air purifier systems help to reduce the amount of carcinogens and odor-causing molecules in the atmosphere. But even these advanced systems cannot totally eliminate the smelly particles that cling to the items in a room or to a person. The best possible course for a healthy home or business is to eliminate smoking altogether. Several states have passed legislation that prohibits smoking in public areas such as airports and government buildings. Some legislation prohibits smoking in restaurants since research shows what nonsmoking customers already knew there really isn't such a thing as a smoke-free section. When establishing a smoke-free home or business isn't possible, then the homeowners or business owners have a responsibility to install the most effective and powerful smoke air purifier possible. Even if the odor-causing particles can't be entirely eliminated, an effective system is better than no system in cleansing the atmosphere. Family members and customers should not have to worry about the effects of second-hand smoke in their homes or at the businesses they frequent.
