Eye Allergy Relief

Sufferers of eye allergies number in the millions and experience discomfort that may also lead to other serious eye conditions. The symptoms associated with airborne allergens that affect the eyes are varied but contribute to conditions called Allergic Conjunctivitis and ocular allergies. Conjunctivitis is also known a pink eye, and though not contagious, it can be serious and when left untreated, cause damage to the optic areas. Ocular allergies are symptoms associated with various eye irritations that are brought about when exposed to certain allergens.

There are many allergens massing the air and there are many looking for eye allergy relief. Pollens are released into the air, mold and dust can float along airborne, and pet dander, or the glycoprotein found in pet dander, can live for months on molecules drifting through our atmosphere. Tobacco smoke, perfumes, and other gasses in the air can also adversely affect bodily systems. The body can negatively react to these allergens, thinking that these elements will cause harm to it. A runny nose, scratchy throat, or watery eye can be the body's way of defending itself from an invading substance. The physical makeup of the human body allows the release of a vasodilator (or histamine) when exposed to substances that are perceived as harmful. Excess mucosus is formed and noses will begin to run and organs of site will begin to water excessively. Some ocular problems can also be associated with certain foods, cosmetics, insect stings, or drug reactions.

The symptoms of eye allergies may vary from one person to the next. Most will exhibit an excess of moister or tears, that can lead to mucus accumulation. These organs in the body are extremely sensitive, and the brain determines to protect them, even when it may cause the person great anguish and discomfort. Ocular allergic symptoms are generally redness and itching, excessive watering, and eyeball swelling. Allergic Conjunctivitis has more serious reactions to elements and the signs of this condition will be matted eyelids, sensitivity to bright light, burning sensations or pus on the surface of the eyeball.

As with most allergic reactions, the best eye allergy relief is preventative treatment. Preventative treatment equates to avoiding the substances that can cause adverse reactions. Staying indoors during allergy seasons and staying away from pet dander can help control discomfort during certain seasons or in certain circumstances. However, there are situations that cannot be controlled and there may be a need to seek additional eye allergy relief methods.

Eye drops, or "tear substitutes" can also be used as topical decongestants. The tear substitutes contain decongestants that constrict the blood vessels and reduce redness. Topical decongestants can be found at local drug stores and do not require a prescription. But, before prolonged use of any topical decongestant is used, a doctor should be consulted. There are also harmful reactions that can occur with extended use. Topical drugs that can be prescribed by a doctor will contain steroids. Any steroid therapy should be closely monitored and used only as prescribed. Some steroids may advance virus growth.

For those who experience chronic eye allergies and need extreme measures for eye allergy relief, there are shots that can be taken to teach the body to not over-react to the elements that are causing a problem. The shots will contain small amounts of the allergens that the person is reacting to. When these substances are introduced to the body on a gradual basis, the body begins to desensitize to these substances. This medical shot process is called immunotherapy. To obtain immunotherapy, those that suffer with allergies will need to be evaluated by a specialist who will determine what allergens affect the patient. Simple tests are administered to make correct diagnosis. Once elements are identified, then weekly shots are administered. Many people with eye allergies have found great relief with immunotherapy.

The Bible speaks to readers about many issues, including health. God desires for this earthly body to be operating in prime condition. There are instances recorded throughout scripture where He healed the sick and Luke, one of the disciples, was a doctor who used God's gift of medicine to administer help to others. God may heal some supernaturally or God may choose to use the resources at hand to help in bringing comfort. The important thing to remember is that we are to trust in Him for every provision and trust that His plan is best for us. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct they paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6) This proverb further tells us that, "It shall be health to thy naval, and marrow to thy bones." (Proverbs 3:8)
