TMJ Diagnosis

TMJ diagnosis treatment is usually managed by a dentist and perhaps by an oral surgeon if the surgical option is the decided treatment for this very painful condition of the jaw joint, which is very near the ear canal. TMJ treatments are determined after some or all of the following symptoms have been noted: (1) clicking and popping of the joint; (2) grinding sounds; (3) headaches and migraine headaches; (4) dizziness; (5) ringing in ears; (6) excessive wear on teeth; (7) severe pain all over the head; (8) pain in neck; (9) earache; (10) sensitivity to light. Treatment can be nonsurgical, where the lower jaw is brought forward with a snap-in appliance to establish the natural space at the rear of the joint and allows the ball to hinge on cartilage at the front of the socket. In a few cases surgery is required to accomplish the correction.

When the ball of the jaw joint does not hinge on the front part of its socket, but is in the rear, TMJ diagnosis treatment is necessary. Critical nerves and major blood vessels to the brain are pinched when they are squeezed between the ball joint and ear canal; cartilage for the socket is in the front only, so the rear of the socket is unprotected; and the bone at the rear of the socket is not strong enough to withstand the forces of chewing without pain. Poor posture is thought to be the cause of some of the cases requiring TMJ treatments, so exercises to improve posture are helpful.

Patients seeking medical advice have experienced a good deal of pain prior to seeing their physician or dentist for help. TMJ treatments are limited, but seem to be effective. Of course, the approach depends upon whom the patient consults. A dentist will try a nonsurgical approach, but an oral surgeon will take the surgical approach right away as the most effective TMJ diagnosis treatment. Any of the symptoms mentioned above are debilitating to a patient and should be addressed early so that TMJ diagnosis treatment can be instituted. A complication without TMJ treatments could be seriously damaged teeth, and still further therapy for that. Migraine headaches have been known to keep its victims from going to work for a day or more, so failing to get the proper care costs employers as well as the patient. Christians realize that pain and suffering are a part of life: "For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ." (2 Corinthians 1:5)
