Many women ask the question of why should abortion be legal. There is no real answer for this question. There are no real reasons for abortion that are apart from the inconvenience of having a child unexpectedly. Many will say that certain reasons for abortion are up for debate when the matter of the child in the womb being physically or mentally deformed, or in cases of rape or incest. Some will wonder why should abortion not be legal in these special cases, even if the general opinion is that having a curettage is murder. Those that believe in God and His Son Jesus Christ know that whatever the situation (whether it's rape, incest or deformity), God is in control. God knows when one of His children is with child. God knows the baby may have been conceived in an atrocious way. God even knows if the baby has deformities. God does not allow anything in a person's life that he has not adequately prepared them to handle. "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that Love Him" (James 1:12). Many times, for living through the consequences of mistakes, a closer relationship with God is formed. This is most important of all. Why should abortion be legal, is not a question that needs an answer. The reasons for this procedure are selfish and illogical.
God does not, however, give us the right to terminate a life for any reason. God alone is the giver and taker of human life, and the one to take each soul into eternity." I know that whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever: nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it...."(Ecclesiastes 3:14a). To ignorantly assume that we know what is best, more than God in heaven knows is wrong. If God gives a woman a child through means of rape, He doesn't expect her to kill it. If God creates a deformed baby in the womb, He doesn't intend for anyone to kill it. Distinguishing between acceptable murder and unacceptable murder makes no sense. If people are asking why should abortion be legal, the answer cannot be found if Christians believe that the fate of an innocent child that was conceived from rape does not count as a human life. There is always the option of adoption if the woman feels that strongly about not having a child and is looking for reasons for abortion.
People that have reasons for abortion are only hurting those that rally against the cause to end the legality of this procedure. Murder is murder. The taking of one life by the hands of man is murder. If it's murder to find a rapist and kill him/her, then how can we say it is not murder to abort the innocent human in the mothers womb conceived by that rapist? The general public needs to understand the simplicity of the decision to discard the " why should abortion be legal " arguments. The media paints a grim picture of single parents and the results of not having had this procedure. Meanwhile the blame is shifted to those who encouraged the childbirth, instead of those who committed fornication that resulted in a pregnancy. In our society, if a person is caught stealing, they must suffer the consequences. If they are caught cheating on taxes, they must suffer the consequences. If they commit fornication, they can suffer no consequences, because inconvenience or a child not wanted are supposed to represent good reasons for having this procedure.
As a society, we have a responsibility to convey to our youth the importance of keeping sex within the boundary of marriage so that when new life is begun it has the security of family. Single parenthood is difficult under any circumstances, and especially when the parents are still children themselves. For Christians, included in that argument should be a voice for the unborn that promotes the sanctity of life. Abortion is not the answer; celibacy is. On the adult level, a woman's right to choose is given as a reason for the legalization of abortion. She alone, they say, must carry and give birth to this unwanted child, so she alone should have the right to decide whether the child should live or die. The father doesn't have to be consulted, or even told, what the decision is. In most instances, the father should have as much right as the mother in deciding the fate of his child, and the law should reflect that. While there are many reasons for abortion given, there is only one that has moral grounds, and that is where the life of the mother is at stake.
