Popping Pimples

Popping pimples is a common way for many people to deal with acne when it appears in many ugly forms on the face, chest, back, arms and thighs. Most, however, do not recognize the fact that squeezing pimples can cause further problems with permanent scarring and darkened areas on the skin. The two types of blemishes to most likely tempt a person to pop them are whiteheads with their yellow-whitish tops and blackheads which look like potholes filled with dirt! Dealing with whiteheads is quite different than dealing with those dark, ugly pores. There is a reasonable procedure for alleviating the pus-ridden, red welts as well as those blackheads that just will not go away on their own...at least anytime soon.

In fact, there have even been tools that have been manufactured to assist a person in removing nasty pimples. Such things as tape, extractors, and syringes are growing in popularity for popping pimples as indicated by the climbing sales of such devices by TV advertisement channels or online skin gurus. Cosmetic tape has been around for awhile that is manufactured in such as way as to 'grab' onto blackheads at one end and pull them out as the user strips away the tape. The effectiveness of this method has proven to be iffy at best, and only the 'right' conditions, i.e. a blackhead protruding above the surface of the skin, spell success to the user.

Extractors such as comedone spoons are commonly marketed with a fashion statement accompanying the look. A sleek, shiny metal tool complete with carrying case can be purchased to loosen and extract blackheads or whiteheads on even those with discriminating tastes. The tool is generally about 3 to 4 inches in length with a very small spoon-like shape on one end. The spoon has several holes that will allow the escaping substance to pass through when the tool is applied. A handsome carrying pouch or case is part of the set and can easily be carried in a lady's makeup case or a man's shaving kit.

The method? Apply a warm, wet cloth to the affected area to loosen the oil, pus or blackhead. After about 5 minutes of this application, use the spoon end of the tool to gently press the pimple or bump to loosen it further. Then, encircle the target area and apply even, slow pressure until the trapped particles within the pore begins to ooze out. Cease squeezing pimples when it is apparent that all the 'goo' is gone. Do not add too much pressure too long since it could result in scarring the area. Another type of comedone extractor is made with a loop at the end to provide a different 'touch' when popping pimples. Especially good for whiteheads that have been slightly pricked with a sterilized needle, this extractor makes it easy to squeeze out the infection and other debris. Using syringes has also been a favorite tool for removing blackheads in particular for several years.

Some are manufactured especially for pimple removal while some people use a regular small, medical syringe with the needle removed. Both work sufficiently well. The method here is to soften the area with warmth and dampness for a few minutes to loosen the particles before squeezing pimples. The syringe tip is applied directly over the blackhead. The body of the syringe is pressed downward over the pimple while the slide is drawn upward to create suction. Many people have reported good success with this method while sustaining no after effects of bruising or scarring.

For those disgusting whiteheads that usually appear at the wrong times, many people just resort to the old fashioned method of using a needle, forefinger and thumb. Again, this technique requires that plenty of damp heat be applied before beginning the procedure. A needle that has been sterilized in alcohol or exposed to a flame should only be used to circumvent infection. Prick the very top of the pustule and gently squeeze the bump until the pus rolls out of the opening. Stop as soon as it becomes clear or reddened with blood. Don't continue to press it as that may lead to scarring and discoloration of tissue. "I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy; for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;" (Psalm 31:7)

Wash the area gently with warm water and a mild cleanser. Then splash cold water several times on the area to help close up the exposed pore. Not surprisingly, this method of squeezing pimples may result in clear skin by the next morning. As discussed, whiteheads and blackheads are typically blemishes that should only be addressed by using some sort of extracting method to lessen the appearance or to remove the bump completely.

Other red bumps that clearly display no debris or infection, but merely protrude from the skin as a welt-like mound should not be attacked with extractors or fingers. Squeezing pimples that are small red rashes with yellow tops should also be left alone to heal through the use of topical applications or other protocols. The best way to deal with annoying acne of any sort is to consult with a doctor about the best treatment options for the particular problem before beginning an aggressive assault on the skin by popping pimples with any tool or using any treatment.
