Rosacea Skin Treatments

Rosacea skin treatments were designed for those who suffer form frequent flare ups, redness and blotchiness that are associated with the skin disorder. If the symptoms are not kept under control, they can worsen. Rosacea skin care products can either be purchased over the counter at local pharmacies and drug stores; or they can be prescribed in stronger dosages from a dermatologist (a physician who specializes in disorders of the skin). Nourishing the dermis is the best defense in fighting the signs and symptoms of the disorder to prevent continual break outs. The disorder has been found in over 16 million North Americans, but many are still unaware of its existence. If left untreated, blood vessels can become enlarged and rhinophyma can develop. "And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee" (Exodus 23:25). The most common method of treating comes from creams containing all natural botanical ingredients. Therapeutic ingredients work together synergistically to reduce the symptoms which include: redness, flushing and broken vessels.

Redness in the face is the most common symptom of rosacea. Tiny dilated blood vessels in the epidermis layers become inflamed. This redness can give the appearance of acne, but it is without the white and blackheads associated with acne. The disorder begins with flushing in the face, around the nose and cheeks, caused by the swelling of the blood vessels in the epidermis. Once this symptom is present, a sufferer can begin using rosacea skin care products for elimination. Flushing occurs more typically when the body's temperature is elevated, when the body is stressed or fatigued, or when it is nervous. The sympathetic nervous system is stimulated and a constriction in the blood vessels creates the swelling and inflammation. Rosacea skin treatments are recommended for those who have genetically weaker blood vessels, damaged vessels due to too much sun exposure, low levels of collagen and elastin, and an increased number of blood vessels.

Stress on the digestive system can also be a main cause of the flushing. Eating smaller meals three times a day can help to alleviate the pressure being put on the vessels. It is also important to maintain a balanced blood sugar level as various foods may stimulate the nervous system and blood flow differently. Simple carbohydrates like alcohol, donuts and pasta spike the glucose levels causing hypoglycemia and can be a potent vessel constrictor. Complete restriction of carbohydrates is unhealthy as they are needed to produce energy for the body to function optimally. Instead of simple sugars, other types of carbohydrates should be eaten. These types include: baked potatoes, beans, corn and apples. Fiber also decreases the amount of food the stomach can hold at one time, and prolongs digestion. Therefore, helping to prevent the constriction of the vessels that result in flushing. Rosacea skin treatments can sometimes be as simple as regulating food ingestion. Adding exercise can also aid in flush elimination. When the cardiovascular system is pushed harder and the heart begins to pump faster, constriction could occur, so training too hard should be avoided. When done moderately, however, the body's circulation system can actually improve. Keeping hydrated while engaging in moderate exercise activity will help to minimize redness.

Some things to avoid in life to prevent having to use rosacea skin care products include cigarette smoking. Smoking takes oxygen from the blood and can cause a multitude of health problems which will weaken the body's immune system. These problems include: High blood pressure, mineral deficiencies, and lung cancer. Taking hot baths or showers should also be avoided since the disorder is connected to elevations in the body's temperature. If the shower or bath is too hot, the body will heat up, especially in the epidermis and begin to show signs of redness and flushing. Since most people who suffer from rosacea already have skin sensitivities, products with fragrances and dyes should be avoided. These unnecessary ingredients only cause further flare ups and can actually worsen the condition of the dermis. Follicle pores can become clogged and the disorder can progress to a level that is extremely hard to heal.

There are three stages of rosacea. During stage one the redness may be present in the skin for hours and days. As it becomes progressively redder the skin may feel a stinging, burning, and itchy sensation after applying cosmetics, fragrances and sunscreens. The epidermis is particularly vulnerable to chemical and physical stimulation during this stage. The use of some rosacea skin care products designed for stage one should be used at this point. Stage two consists of the inflammatory stage where papules persist for weeks at a time. The legions form in the follicles in the epidermal layers. The deeper the legions the better chance the sufferer has of scarring. Legions will be particularly large in the follicles on the scalp. The sides of the neck can also be affected. Only a small proportion of patients exhibit the signs of stage three. During this stage the contours of the face become coarse, thick and irregular. Severe rosacea skin treatments are needed and must be prescribed. Allowing the epidermis to get to this stage happens because adequate previous treatments were not sought, or the patient failed to call a physician for a diagnosis of the disorder. Dermatologists still recommend prevention as the best way to fight the disorder.
